Anaga Rural Park
El Pijaral Integral Nature Reserve (La Ensillada – Cabezo del Tejo trail)
El Pijaral permit (Enchanted Forest): how to book it and permit-free trails
El Pijaral is an Integral Nature Reserve of laurel forest in Anaga. To walk its loop trail (just over 6 km from the La Ensillada car park to the Cabezo del Tejo viewpoint) you need prior authorisation on Tenerife ON, with a quota of 45 people a day. Dates only open two weeks ahead, so it cannot be booked months in advance.
Before you go
Organised visits by tour companies and accredited guides are not allowed: no tour can take you into El Pijaral. Everyone books individually on Tenerife ON.
Guided alternative in Anaga's laurel forest (outside El Pijaral)
If you cannot get a place or prefer a guide, this full-day tour covers other sections of Anaga's forest and ridges. It does not enter El Pijaral, where organised groups are not allowed.
- Hiking guide and gear (poles, helmet, torch)
- Pickup along Tenerife's south and east coast
- Picnic and accident insurance included
Free Alternatives (No Permit Required)
Forest of the Enigmas (Cruz del Carmen)
Self-guided loop through the laurel forest starting at Cruz del Carmen or the Zapata viewpoint. The island council itself suggests it as a permit-free alternative to El Pijaral.
Path of the Senses (Cruz del Carmen)
Short, well-kept sections next to the Cruz del Carmen Visitor Centre to see the laurel forest without booking.
